Biography
Dane formed his landscape company at age seventeen, starting with maintenance and smaller projects that gave him an appreciation for low-maintenance practical designs. After being taught horticulture at Waldorf Schools in New York and England, he continued his landscape education through a process of hiring some of the best contractors in the field to train him in areas of heavy equipment, masonry, carpentry, and drainage. This personal experience doing all aspects of the work supports Dane in being an efficient and competent manager and Designer.
Dane developed his unique design process to be a partnership with clients, helping them articulate their values and preferences and then showing them practical and beautiful ways of expressing them on their land. He has re-invented his way of designing and installing several times to support excellent communication and minimized stress for clients in what is always an exciting and at times chaotic process of giving birth to a vision.
To support Dane in helping clients who are building new homes, Dane developed a unique service of integrating landscaping with the building process. As part of his preparation for this work, he designed and served as general contractor for two houses, using foresight to save significant amounts of money landscaping, while enhancing the visual and practical flow between home and landscape.
"Thank you, Dane, for the best design I could have ever wished for!"
